I used mountain bike manufacturers and big online retailers to figure out how much modern mountain bikes weigh. I took the time to do the math and figure out the average weight.
The bikes in the survey came from a wide range of manufacturers, such as Trek, Cannondale, Yeti, Orbea, Santa Cruz, and Niner.
Instead of putting bikes into groups based on their intended use, I grouped data across all enduro, cross-country, trail, downhill, and gravity bikes to show the average weight of all bikes.
After looking at 345 mountain bikes, I found that the average weight was 29.0 pounds (13.2 kg). At 21.1 pounds, the lightest mountain bike on the list was the heaviest. At 37.5 pounds, it was the heaviest on the list (17.0 kg).
It’s important to point out that some bike manufacturers don’t make their weights public. The weight of some bikes isn’t important to them, so they don’t include it.
This isn’t true, though. I could still get enough samples from many different companies to make sure that my numbers were accurate.
