Every BMX bicycle enthusiast knows that when you ride a bicycle, you need to attach the front and back wheels together with a sprocket. It is one of the most important parts of a bicycle because if you don’t put a sprocket in place then the wheel won’t turn properly. So, how do you put a sprocket on a BMX bike?
The first thing that we need to do is to buy a sprocket which will fit our size of the bicycle. So, for example, if your bicycle has a 20-inch wheel then you must get a sprocket that has a 20-inch hole. If your bicycle has a 25-inch wheel then you must get a sprocket that has a 25-inch hole.
Once we have a sprocket of our size then we need to buy some tools like a crescent wrench, chain lube, and a 5-inch piece of nylon rope. After buying these tools, we need to follow the steps below to put a sprocket in place.
1: Remove the brake handle from the front wheel.
First, we must remove the brake handle from the front wheel. After removing it, we need to loosen the screw located on the side of the bicycle. Then, we need to pull it out as it is not necessary for the next step.
2: Remove the wheel and put a crescent wrench in the wheel.
After loosening the screw, remove the wheel from the frame. Now, put the crescent wrench in the wheel and tighten the screw.
3: Put a 5-inch piece of nylon rope in the hole and then put the crescent wrench back.
Now, we need to get some nylon rope and tie it to the wheel by using the crescent wrench. The length of the rope should be about 12 inches. After tying it, you need to put the crescent wrench back and tighten it.
4: Apply some chain lube
After tying the sprocket on the wheel, you need to apply some chain lube on the nylon rope and also on the sprocket. This will prevent it from slipping off when you ride.
This is how you put a sprocket on a BMX bike. So, you don’t have to worry about your wheels because if they slip then your bike won’t work. I hope this tutorial has been helpful for you.
